Why I Use the Emotional Culture Deck in My Training Sessions

When I facilitate workshops, one of my top priorities is creating a space where participants feel safe, heard, and ready to engage. Since I started using the Emotional Culture Deck back in 2019, I’ve discovered it is an incredibly powerful tool to set that scene and establish a foundation for meaningful conversations and engagement.

Emotions are central to how we navigate the world, and whether we realise it or not, they shape our decisions and interactions. The Emotional Culture Deck brings this truth to the forefront. Right from the start of a session, it helps people tune in to their emotions, creating an awareness of how they feel and how they want to feel—both in the workshop and in the workplace.

What continues to amaze me, session after session, is how quickly participants open up when I use this tool. Within moments, they’re sharing insights about themselves, speaking honestly about how they want to feel, and even acknowledging emotions they want to avoid. This level of openness not only builds trust in the room but also allows us to dive into deeper, more impactful discussions.

The Emotional Culture Deck doesn’t just stop at self-reflection. It’s a catalyst for tangible action. By identifying the emotions they value most, participants gain clarity about what they want to work on—both personally and professionally. This clarity often leads to concrete, actionable steps that foster stronger workplace cultures and more intentional leadership.
